Saturday morning Land Trust hike

I'm leading a 4- or 8-mile hike on the Blevins Gap Land Trust trails this Saturday at 7:30 a.m. We'll meet at the Land Trust parking lot at the top of Blevins Gap at 7:20.

To get a feel for the hike, visit the land trust website (http://landtrust-hsv.org/trail-maps/) and download the topo map from http://landtrust-hsv.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/BlevinsGap-final-3-1....

The idea is that we'll make one loop by following Sugar Tree + Varnedoe + Certain, and then see how we're feeling. If we have the energy and it hasn't gotten too late or too hot, we'll make another lap in the opposite direction.

This could be a great hike for any 5-mile hike requirements, and a great training hike for Philmonters (which is why I'm going on it!).

Bring snacks and plenty of water, a bandana to wipe your brow, your favorite hiking stick, and a change of shirt and shoes for when you get done. You may want to grab a camera because the view from the top of the ridge is pretty neat.

The usual "Be Prepared" also applies: rain, first aid, cat hole supplies...

If your whole family wants to come along, I'd say that one loop around is do-able down to 10-year-olds. One loop should take about 1.5 to 2 hours.

If you're a geocacher, there are (or were) several caches on these trails, too...

Click open the "Signup" section and put your info in so we'll know who to expect.

See you Saturday!
